Dig Out Your Christmas Jumpers For Word Forest

Listen to this article.

The weather has finally taken a more seasonal turn and it’s time to dig a little further back in our wardrobes to cope with chillier temperatures.

In the not too distant future, there’s a high likelihood that many of us will be preparing to spend a week or so enjoying seasonal festivities with our friends and family. Word Forest are asking you to include their international reforestation charity in your merry thoughts too.

The dedicated team here at Word Forest is working flat out to combat our global climate emergency. The critical work we’re doing by reforesting Kenya helps reduce extreme weather events across the planet, like the flash floods many countries have experienced in recent months.

Back in May 2023, Word Forest’s Head Office in Tipton St John, and neighbouring areas in East Devon, experienced some of the worst flash flooding ever recorded in the area during an unprecedented storm and deluge of heavy rain. Newton Poppleford, Venn Ottery and Metcombe were also badly hit, as powerful floodwater wreaked utter devastation. Many will remember Michelle Tessier, landlady of The Golden Lion, appearing on the national news bulletins talking about how the village was affected by the shocking hail and rainfall.

Just last week, storm Ciarán battered Britain and wreaked havoc in a multitude of places.

Tracey West, Word Forest CEO, comments:

“Extreme weather events are becoming par for the course, due to the amount of CO2 in our atmosphere. That’s why we’re planting trees in Kenya where they grow up to 10 times faster than anywhere else on the planet. They are our best hope for drawing down and locking in CO2 super-quickly. They’re inexpensive to plant, they require zero tech and they’re a sure-fire way of helping Mother Nature balance out our climate and reduce the frequency of extreme weather events.

We’re asking businesses everywhere to host a Funky Christmas Jumper Day in our name, helping raise urgently needed funds to get more trees in the ground. We’ve got a poster you can download and email to staff members, or print out and put by the coffee machines. Every pound and penny we collect will make an enormous difference. We’ll be happy to visit your offices in person or virtually in the New Year to give a talk on how the funds you’ve managed to raise will alleviate our climate emergency.”

Visit WordForest.org/contact or call Tracey or Simon West on 01297 533 111 to request the poster.

Thank you so much for your support. It almost literally means the world!
