Stitching good ethics and sustainability into your business, is no bad thing these days.
It can benefit your business, the charity concerned and of course, the planet. It can also increase your customer base too.
More and more environmentally conscious consumers are spending their hard earned green pounds and pennies more wisely and the most recent Ethical Consumer Report is a strong indicator of what’s going on.
If you run a business and this topic is all new to you, don’t worry, you’re not alone. It can be quite confusing knowing how to green your business up – especially when you’re busy getting on and just doing what you do – but if you are serious about finding a way to give a little something back to the planet and you need a bit of advice, we’ll be happy to come to the rescue.
A recently updated report (click here to watch their brilliant 1 minute video) from the World Meteorological Organization confirms that we are already 1 degree above pre-industrial levels. The earth simply doesn’t have the ability for global temperatures to increase dramatically, without countless humans and considerable amounts of wildlife, suffering the consequences.
So whether you want to offset the CO2 caused by the business you do, like the Lyme Regis Baptist Church or Saskia Griffiths-Moore did, or be steered towards more eco-friendly business practices, Word Forest will be happy to help you find a way forward.
Something you can do straight off the bat to get things rolling, is adopt The Word Forest Organisation as your Charity of the Year. This would be a nurturing partnership where, in short, we’d be able to guide you towards a greener existence, showing you how to leave a lighter carbon footprint too and in return, you’d agree to support us with vital fundraising so we can get more urgently needed trees in the ground.
In a brilliant little article by Holy Brook Associates, a small training and events company in Cheshire, they explain why they decided to do it:
We’ve been working with a Charity of the Year since March. We tried it as an experiment – after all we’re a small business and it’s normally associated with bigger companies.
At our associates meet up today we unanimously agreed we want to do it again. For us having a charity of the year is not only about raising some money, it’s about using our skills, our network and our time to support them in improving what they do.
Here are some of the reasons:
-
- It means we have a focus for our charitable activity
- We can build our relationship with the charity over time to find more effective ways of helping them
- We can support and help them with building their network and use our connections to help them
- It helps us as well by building our network and reputation.
- Our team have bonding by work together on a succesful and meaningful project
- It helps us achieve one of our key targets which is to make a difference to our local community
If you’d like to have a chat about the mutually beneficial relationship we could both enjoy by adopting our reforestation NGO as your Charity of the Year, we’d love to hear from you.
Drop us a line and let’s firm up a date to pop the kettle on!

NB: You might be interested to know the United Nations recently created a list of Sustainable Development Goals. They refer to them as, “a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. They address many of the global challenges we all face as individuals and in business, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, peace and justice. If you’ve never come across them before, you’ll need a large cup of your favourite beverage and some time to digest them. They’re encouraging individuals, businesses and governments to achieve each goal and target, by 2030.
